At the beginning of the year 1998, Symbian is a joint venture of the few players in the mobile world Psion, Ericsson, Nokia, and Motorola. Then in 1999, Matsushita (Panasonic) joined into it.
In the following years many mobile phone makers are starting to adopt Symbian technology. In 2000, Sony and Sanyo Symbian OS license, in 2001 Fujitsu and Siemens to buy a license, too. Year 2002 Samsung buy a license, in the same year Siemens and Sony Ericsson became one of its shareholders.
Samsung became one of the shareholders in the year 2003. In 2004, Psion and Motorola sold its stake to nokia, now most of the Symbian shares held by Nokia which is a leader in mobile-phone sales worldwide.
The first mobile phone with Symbian OS operating system is the Ericsson R380 smart phone released in 2000. Proceed with the issuance and announcement of mobile phones with the Symbian operating system, such as the Nokia 9210 Communicator and Nokia 7650 in 2001. Followed by the announcement made by P800 phones that adopt Sony ericsson symbian version 7.0 in 2002.
Year 2003 started a lot of mobile phones based on Symbian OS, including Nokia 3660, Nokia 3620, Nokia N-Gage, Nokia 6600, Nokia 7700, Sendo X, Siemens SX1, Sony Ericsson P900, BenQ P30, FOMA 2102v, and Motorola A920.
Symbian OS version starts from the issuance of Ericsson R380 mobile phones based on Symbian smart phone version 5 which is the Unicode version of the EPOC version of the Psion 5.
The first version of applying an open platform is Symbian OS version 6.0 in the year 2000 which is used for the Nokia 9210 and 9290 Communicator. Then followed by Version 6.1 in early 2001 that are used for mobile phones Series 60 Platform is the Nokia 7650 and 3650 imaging phones.
Symbian OS version 7.0 was issued in 2002 and used for Sony Ericsson P800 and P900. Symbian OS 7.0S version issued in 2003 for mobile phones Nokia. Here is a list of mobile phones based on Symbian operating system.
